vera weber

LA-based film composer, pianist, harpsichordist, vocalist, and songwriter.

about

Vera Weber is a film composer, pianist, harpsichordist, vocalist, and songwriter from Los Angeles, known for emotionally resonant themes, compelling melodies, and distinctive electro-acoustic textures. Her music balances minimalism with bold personal expression, appealing to directors seeking sensitivity, originality, and scores that depart from convention.

With a ‘less is more’ philosophy, Weber develops her themes through sonic textures, blending synthesizers, prepared piano, extended techniques, world instruments, guitars, strings, vocals, percussion, sound design, and electronic processing, resulting in a modern palette ideal for thrillers, crime, drama, and contemporary, pop-art–inspired projects.

Weber has composed for numerous award-winning films and TV projects, including the six-part mini-series Take the Money and Run and Am Ende – Die Macht der Kränkung, plus numerous feature films for major European broadcasters. Her film music has been recognized by multiple award nominations, including the German Emmys (Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen), the Golden Panda Awards, and TeleVisionale Festival.

Most recently, Weber composed original songs for Netflix’s thriller series Woman of the Dead (Season 2), released by Milan Records & Sony Music France. Her song “Rosebud” was nominated for Best Song in a Limited Series at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards in 2025, a highly competitive category, where she was an underdog nominated alongside Lady Gaga, Evanescence, and Twenty One Pilots.

In Los Angeles, Weber worked as a full-time staff composer at Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers Custom Music and continues freelance collaborations with the company.

Vera comes from a long lineage of musicians from the rural villages of Germany’s Black Forest. Mentored by her father, award-winning composer Matthias Weber, Vera developed a refined ear for melody and emotional nuance early in life. She regularly collaborates with him, notably writing additional music for the German Academy Award–winning feature A Whole Life, which premiered at the Zurich Film Festival.

Beyond film music, Weber is a versatile multi-instrumentalist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, Zipper Hall, REDCAT, and The Troubadour, and toured internationally in China and Mexico. She is the lead singer-songwriter of the art-pop / trip-hop band Candy as a Nun, co-led with guitarist Caleb Veazey. Weber also writes concert and experimental music, with her debut prepared-piano duo album A Soft Lunacy released on Orenda Records. Weber shoots analog film in her free time, often weaving her visuals into personal projects.
